Our Mission
We envision a world where humans and wildlife thrive together. Our mission is to:
History and Milestones
Attractions and Animal Care
Our Zoo features various regions, including Adventure Landing, African Savanna, and California Trail, home to over 850 native and exotic animals. We're committed to providing exceptional animal care, education programs, and family experiences.
Conservation Society of California
The Conservation Society of California is a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Trustees. We oversee the Zoo's mission, core values, and policies, ensuring our commitment to conservation and wildlife advocacy.
Conservation Education
The Conservation Society of California is committed to conservation-based education, focusing on 15 key species and aligning with local and global initiatives. Our zoo-based education efforts promote conservation, support re-population programs for endangered species, and collaborate with conservationists worldwide.
AZA Accreditation
As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), we're part of the largest conservation organization in the US. AZA institutions contribute over $160 million annually to wildlife conservation and train 40,000 teachers each year.
Conservation Partnerships
Our conservation work extends globally, partnering with over 25 organizations to support wildlife conservation efforts. Locally, we collaborate with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home wildlife affected by wildfires and human-wildlife conflict.
Public Support
The Conservation Society of California Oakland Zoo relies on support from individuals, foundations, corporations, and memberships. In 2023, public support contributed 8% of our $27.34 million operating budget, enabling us to provide accessible experiences for diverse communities.
