How To Decide Whether You Are Candidate for Breast Surgery?

As a surgeon, I’ve seen firsthand how breast surgery can be a life-changing decision for many women. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of guiding countless patients through this. Let me share some insights from my experience and the stories of women I’ve helped.

Choosing to have breast surgery is a big and personal decision. For your safety, it is always best to consult with a certified surgeon who specializes in breast surgery so that you can rest assured that you will get the best results. Like other parts of our body, Breasts come in different shapes and sizes or droop. It is a personal and intimate part of our body, helping us maintain our image and confidence.

If you are unhappy with your breast shape or size or do not like the way your breasts look in your favourite dress, several breast surgical procedures are available to restore a breast to near normal shape, appearance and size.

I always emphasize to my patients that choosing breast surgery is a significant and intimate decision. In my practice, I’ve made it a priority to provide thorough, personalized consultations. I remember Jenney, a 35-year-old mother of two, who came to me feeling self-conscious about her post-pregnancy body. During our consultation, we discussed her concerns in detail and I explained the various options available to her. It’s crucial to me that each patient feels heard and understood before proceeding with any procedure.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation remains one of the most popular procedures in my practice. I’ve helped perform hundreds of these surgeries, using both silicone and saline implants. One patient, Emily, stands out in my memory. She was a 28-year-old athlete who felt her breast size didn’t match her athletic build. We chose silicone implants for her, as they provided a more natural feel that complemented her active lifestyle. Seeing her confidence bloom post-surgery was incredibly rewarding.

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

Traditional breast implants may not be the best solution if you have enough excess fat to harvest. Breast augmentation with fat transfer helps to increase your breast size from half a cup to one full cup. This procedure is known as tumescent liposuction because it takes fat from another part of your body, either from the thighs, abdomen, or flanks. After taking the fat, your surgeon will purify it and inject it into the breasts in the size that the patients have requested.

In recent years, I’ve seen an increasing interest in fat-transfer breast augmentation. I recall a patient, Lisa, who was hesitant about traditional implants. We discussed fat transfer as an alternative, and she was thrilled with the idea of using her own body fat to enhance her breasts. We harvested fat from her thighs and the result was a subtle, natural-looking enhancement that perfectly suited her frame.

Breast Lift Surgery

Breast augmentations are great for increasing the size of your breasts, but it is not a good option if your breasts are droop or saggy. When women go through different phases of their life, including age, gravity, weight fluctuations and breastfeeding, their breasts hang down instead of sitting high on the chest.

If you are the one who notices that your nipples have turned downwards and the skin of the breasts has reduced elasticity may choose a breast lift surgery. It aims to restore balance and symmetry between the breasts, tightening the muscles surrounding the chest and repositioning the nipple where necessary, typically by removing excess skin and fat.

Breast lifts have been transformative for many of my patients, especially those who’ve experienced significant weight loss or pregnancies. I remember Rachel, a 45-year-old who had lost 50 pounds. While she was proud of her weight loss, she was unhappy with how it affected her breast shape. After her breast lift surgery, she told me she felt like her outer appearance finally matched her inner vitality.

Get an Attractive Breast with Breast Reduction

Breasts that are heavy and large can result in chronic back, shoulder or neck pain, making the patient feel self-conscious. Most women want to reduce the size of the breast to get relief from the pain. This procedure heals you from these symptoms by removing excess skin, fat and breast tissue via incisions and liposuction. Moreover, it also involves repositioning the breast tissue, nipple and areola.

Some of the most grateful patients I’ve had are those who’ve undergone breast reduction surgery. Maria, a 40-year-old nurse, had suffered from chronic back pain for years due to her large breasts. After her reduction surgery, she came to her follow-up appointment with tears of joy, telling me she could finally work a full shift without pain.

Nipple Correction and Reduction

For those who have pointed nipples, it can be an embarrassing matter to confront. Nipple correction and reduction surgery is a cosmetic procedure that can help to improve the appearance of your nipples. This procedure involves removing excess skin from your nipples, resulting in a more prominent nipple shape. It can also help to reduce the size of your areolae (the pigmented circles around your nipples) and improve the symmetry of your nipple. It may be performed as a standalone procedure or combined with other procedures, such as breast augmentation or breast lift. You should consider it only if you have an issue with your nipple that cannot be corrected through other methods.

Nipple correction surgeries, while less common, can have a profound impact on a patient’s self-esteem. I recall a young woman, Jessica, who was extremely self-conscious about her inverted nipples. The relatively simple procedure we performed had an outsized effect on her confidence. She later told me she finally felt comfortable being intimate with her partner.

Conclusion

In my years of practice, I’ve learned that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to breast surgery. Each patient’s body, goals and circumstances are unique. Whether it’s augmentation, reduction, a lift, or nipple correction, the key is to listen carefully to each patient’s desires and concerns.

I’ve seen how these procedures can not only change a person’s appearance but also boost their self-esteem and quality of life. As a surgeon, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a patient’s joy and renewed confidence after a successful procedure.

Each treatment offers its own set of unique advantages. Before going for breast surgery, you must understand that the difference between these procedures, like breast augmentation focuses on making breasts larger and breast lift surgery primarily focuses on saggy breasts.
